BRIAN
Brian and Olivia in "The 70's" room
Brian started working at The Turntable Factory in early 2006. His interest in turntables and vintage audio lead him to apprentice until he moved to Ohio with his girlfriend Olivia, where they both are continuing their educational goals. Brian fixes most of the turntables now, and answers most of the e-mails. Safe to say "Chief Cook and Bottle Washer" is Brian's new title.
John

John meet Joel at the post office in the spring of 2004 in Columbia SC, while they were both shipping turntables they repaired. John is currently not doing much repair work, but is still maintaining the website and helping Brian as much as possible. There's a lot of work to keeping The Turntable Factory going.
SOME PERSONAL INFORMATION ABOUT Joel...
by Joel

Back in 1975, I was offered employment at a large stereo mail-order firm (Stereo Corp of America-Brooklyn, New York). I worked there for 4 years, then moved myself to sunny southern California, where I secured employment for the Recycle Stereo division of Pacific Stereo.
I did turntable rebuilding and repairs there for a year, then opened my own turntable shop for 2 more years.
Then I went back to New York, and Stereo Corp. for another 3 years. Gave the whole thing up as un-profitable in 1986, and went to work in an auto-body shop...where I learned all about theft-recoveries!
As of Christmas Day, 1998, I had given up New York and relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, finding the 5,000+ foot altitude very difficult on my lungs, I relocated to Columbia, South Carolina in November 1999, and have my shop set up here.
Between answering e-mails, phone calls, Post Office and UPS runs, buying trips and actual turntable work, this one-time hobby has now become a 12 hour a day 7 day per week business!
Seems things have come full circle...Folks are re-discovering their old vinyl, the younger generation is finding out what the "warmth" of vinyl and "sterility" of CD's is all about, and also the fact that some "classic" music was, or never will be, issued on CD, has made the turntable popular once again.
At the same time, they're finding that the few new turntables that are on the market now are either poorly built or terribly expensive, and there aren't any stacking changers nor reasonably-priced 78 players being manufactured any more. So I'm trying to help fill this void by rebuilding or refurbishing a variety of record changers and turntables to sell at prices that not only won't empty one's wallet, but selling quality products that will hold up for a long time without needing service.
I also recommend a repair for turntables that my customers already own, if they are of decent quality, as that's the most cost-effective way to own a good record changer or turntable!!

AND ME....
I found things here that I had been searching for a long time.....Then I decided to try to sell some of the things that I had collected over the years...which brought me back to TURNTABLES!
I had 3 that were only collecting dust. I posted them and wound up selling them for considerably more than I had imagined them to be worth!
I also got a lot of e-mail about them and turntables in general. Those folks considered me quite knowledgeable in this field, and some suggested I get back into servicing turntables, as most repair shops shy away from them. I still had a lot of parts stock, and began to explore avenues to procure other parts and accessories.
Then I hit the motherlode...I bought about 30 changers from one source, and began rebuilding them and posting them on eBay! I had auctioned about 10 of them, then found that they were beginning to sell before I could even service and post them!
I have found that there are many, many individuals that still play vinyl, and want to stack and play their records automatically.
As stacking turntables went the way of the Studebaker, I am thrilled that I have the knowledge and the units to help them do it! I also stock a good amount of used parts and donor turntables, mostly to repair the units I sell, and to service my customers' units as well.
Lastly, my basic philosophy is thus: I treat people the way I like to be treated..with honesty and integrity. I stand behind my products and services. I believe in prompt communications. I always give the benefit of the doubt.
I have met quite a few individuals through eBay that share my standards, and have even gained some new friendships because of eBay.
. Upon my move to New Mexico, I was fortunate enough to find a house with a 3 car garage, and that became the new home of "Turntable Services". Well, needless to say, my health issues got in the way, and necessitated another move, so I could be at sea level, and therefore settled in Columbia South Carolina, South enough to have a warmer climate, but still a day's drive to family and friends in the New York area. Upon arriving here in November of 1999, "Turntable Services" was once again set up and running.. in a 3 room apartment. Between the hastening pace of the business, the buyouts of machines and parts I'd been making, and the steadily escalating amount of customer repairs, e-mails and phone calls, the apartment (which was only a temporary move to begin with), finally gave way to a house and also a new, good-sized workshop. After all the growth and moves, I feel we are finally in a permanent home, with room for expansion, and then decided to change the name of the business from "Turntable Services" to the more-encompassing (and more 'zappy') "The Turntable Factory"
"Chief cook & bottlewasher"
