I also stock some used and new, old stock 45 automatic spindles. A few things that I must mention. When I order new parts, they are expensive.. relative to the cost of the machine when new. But, the fact that you can't buy a Dual like those made 25 to 35 years ago, parts costs begin to become a minor factor. Some parts that are no longer available are the AS-2 (stacking small-hole spindle for 10 series), the 10 series headshells, and 12 series idler wheel. If you have a 10 series, and you've lost your spindle or headshell, it basically renders your turntable useless. A pity.... A group of folks have tried to talk Dual Germany into putting these things back into production, but to no avail. On the plus side, if your 10 series spindle just doesn't work properly, chances are I can rebuild it.

Same goes for your 10 series headshell. I can replace wires and re-mount the contacts, to give it new life.
I usually try to keep about 20 or so Duals in stock. They are of varying years and models. All will be refurbished, and sold with a warranty. They come with bases, 33 spindles, and cartridges. I don't actually do the work on them until I have a request for that particular machine.
Although most of these machines clean up to be at least an "8", most don't have covers. It seems those were the first thing to break or get lost way back....

A NOTE TO OWNERS OR PROSPECTIVE BUYERS OF THE MODELS: 502, 510, 601 and 1249:

When these first came on the market, there was a major problem. When used in countries that utilized 50Hz line frequency, they worked fine. However, when used on the US 60Hz current, MANY of these units had a motor that would "double speed". Upon either pushing the start lever or manually moving the arm off the rest to start the machine, if it was set at "33", the unit would actually spin at 66! Back then, the only cure was a replacement motor. At that time, Dual extended the warranty period to cover this problem. Fast forward 30 years, and the problem still exists on MOST of these units.. so, a word of caution.. If you intend to buy one, ask the seller if the one you are interested has ever exhibited this problem. Not all did, but more than enough did (and do) that this warning is necessary. Since this could have been an "intermittant" problem, OR a constant one, you'd need to ask a seller to turn the machine on at least 10 or more times.. The chances are, if it doesn't double-speed at least once in 10 or 20 tries, it's OK. Another thing to look for: The original motor was a model # SM-840. The replacement is an SM-860. If it's been replaced with the 860, you're "home free". If not, the chances are all-too-good that the machine will exhibit the double-speed syndrome. The cure now, as then, is motor replacement.. $100 "back in the day", CONSIDERABLY MORE, now!

I try to keep my prices on units at an affordable level, but you can go to eBay or other sources and buy them cheaper. In this same paragraph, I'll also mention that more than half of my repair business comes from on-line purchases that were either not truthfully represented, or the seller sold the unit saying "needs work". I can say from experience, that I can find at least 2 or 3 problems with a Dual that has not been serviced (or used) in the past 15 years.
I plan to sell some Duals on eBay, and some through my website. The units that I get the most requests for such as 1219's, 1229's and 1249's, will go to eBay for auction. It's the fairest way to sell them as I rarely get them in stock, and it would be unfair for me to favor one buyer over another.
I have enough parts here, that a Dual that would have been unrepairable a few years ago (at a reasonable cost), can now be repaired. I've been able to take parts from tonearms and transplant them, rather than install a whole new arm. The arm usually breaks in 3 different places... the head breaks off or the tube bends or breaks, or the bearing housing breaks. Bent tonearms I can usually straighten, I've made a jig to do that. But broken arms need new parts.. and if I can make 3 good arms out of one, complete, good used one of mine, it saves money. A new arm can run $100 for just the part.alone. The same goes for other parts of the unit. My main business is repair, and I do more Dual turntables than ANY OTHER BRAND! I'm not really in the business of selling parts,(I stock them for customer repairs, mostly), but if you need something and I can help, send me an e-mail! All queries answered, from a $1 part, to a whole turntable. As my previous customers, as well as other e-mailers to me know, I answer quickly and precisely!
